TRENTON FALLS campout didn't happen this year. Temperatures of 23°F at night rightly put off people. The daytime temps barely reached 50°F.
Chenango Valley State Park (Binghamton) - Dan and Michelle are on site #198, site #206 for Mom + Bob, Bill Waelder & family are on site 200.... so far.

This past weekends Empire VW camping trip to Moffitt beach DEC campground was A++ great. *This was a change from the previously scheduled Green Lakes S.P as there was less than positive interest in camping there. What a great turn out and even better weather. (14)VWs, friends & families came out to enjoy one of the nicest campgrounds we’ve been to yet. The park staff was friendly and Uncle Larry made sure to inform each & every to pack their food at night away from the native bears. “They don’t have a bear problem, and They don’t intend to either” (sic) A nice easy to manage drive along Route 365 & Rt8 from the Central NY area. You could see the trees down from Tropical storm Irene, the park wasn’t hit hard, only a few new trees here/there taken by the storm. With a clear adirondak lake boulder faced edge at each campsite and shadded sites under the trees. A perfect ADK camping setting. Nice water for paddling or Bill’s daily swim. Though cooper spent more time out in the lake. The nights were cool, not quite crisp so the leaves are just beginning to turn, next week+ would be perfect for fall foliage. And I’d recommend this park to anyone travelling thru this region. Satuday’s potluck and group fire was a great time, And Sunday was a slow sad bittersweet time to leave, with nearly perfect warm & sunny weather. Most took the long way home, to further capture the essence of the ADks in Autumn. ...Dan Stevens

 The Empire VW camping club picked a good weekend to have a campout. Thursday temps hit 100° in some places and temps at the beach were in the high 90's for FRI. & SAt. Fairhaven Beach is on Lake Ontario where the water temp. was 80°. About 10+ Dubs showed up. It was a great place to be during the heat wave. Several folks went swimming to cool down, I went a few times and stayed in until I was crinkled. The nights were fine for sleeping. No long sleeves or heavy blankets were needed. It was a relaxing weekend with a lot of VW talk. {gallery}Fairhaven{/gallery}

We missed the bullet once again. In spite of hurricane Irene we had a terrific weekend at Westcott Beach. The storm held off until late Sunday morning when everybody was already packed up, and in most cases, on the road. The weekend was warm and wonderful with a good VW turnout. I had a great time as I am sure most folks did. Check out the photos in the photo album.
