Hi Volks,
I know this comes late and after the fact, but went camping this past weekend at Oak Orchard Marina and Campground at Maye's Point. I put the call out and you missed out. Even gave a call to Joel C. who was out and about to check it out, no mas.
So, the goal was to campout and to survey. They did "officially" close on the 15th, but the website said different. Pulled in around 4:30 and a pile of melting ice and a darkened door met this traveler. Omen?
Kicked around and started to explore. What else do you do? It was all very quiet. Walked around and got called out. Kinda a, "Who goes there?!".
"Just lookin' to see if you've got a spot."
" We closed last weekend, where you from?"
"Rochester. I saw on the website you where still open, is that true?"
" Nope. Closed last weekend. Who's with ya?"
" Just me. I'd like to stay, if that's okay, I'm here only for one night."
Grumbles from the depths of the 5th wheeler....
" Got Cash, 'cause I's ain't gonna open up the shop."
" Yes."
Put the coin out and then thee most treasured words spoken to a camper, " I don't give a shit where you park, park where you like. Water is off at 12."
Freedom. Oh my sweet holy freedom of the aches and pains of the Summer crunch. What I met at the final resting spot was sublime. Water, Wind and quiet. Stunning to be in a area that scattered about was the propped up, wind torn vestages of a Summers past. Made camp as any solo camper does, in haste and silence to reap the benifits of the oncoming night and the fever of exploration.
Power was still on and to that built a cozy VW nest. Walked the Campground and pondered. I came to the conclusion to this is the spot for a event. Spent the next day exploring around to find activities for all to do.
Happy Trails,
Mark
